Marulo is one of the best producers of pasta there are in Italy and given Italy the home of pasta that is saying something, in fact Marulo pasta was recently voted a one of the top 10 pasta in the World. You will be hard pressed to find this anywhere else in the UK. As an artisan style pasta maker based right in the heartland of pasta making, Naples, their pasta is made using only the finest durum wheat semolina flour. The bronze drawn and the delicate long drying process at low temperatures are the fundamental steps that Marulo believes make the best “griffe” which is able to guarantee flavour, colour and cooking quality.

The Calamari shape is highly unusual in that the pasta is sized similarly to that of squid calamari, the shape makes it particularly good for any tomato or heavier cheee/cream based sauces which will stick both inside and out of the tube.

To show how passionate Marulo is about their pasta on their website they state they do not provide a cooking guide instead stating ” the artisanal nature of our pasta does not allow you to define a single cooking time. It is advisable to immerse each kg of pasta in 10 litres of water and check the cooking until your preferred taste and texture”. Although, on their packaging, it does provide a cooking time of 9 minutes!

The texture that is produced by being drawn through its bronze machinery ensures a pitted texture along the paste ensuring more sauce bonds to the pasta creating the ultimate taste.
